Congrats! If you take care of your PSP it will provide many many hours of enjoyment. Some tips for a first time owner are:

Buy a screen protector
Only upgrade with a fully charged battery

If you want to go beyond what Sony intended the PSP for you will definitely want to visit this website:
http://pspupdates.qj.net

Some people there are creating some awesome things to do with the PSP. There you will learn about homebrew or home made games and applications. You can learn how to play Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega Genesis, and even PS1 on your PSP, through emulation all of this is possible. The PSP is an amazing piece of portable technology. Just be warned that alot of people have permenantly damaged their PSP's by not taking nessecary precautions when installing or using any homebrew application or game. Also, make sure when attempting any update to your PSP that you make sure your battery is fully charged. Good luck, and enjoy.

To be honest, return it and buy an Xbox 360.
(That's what I did)

You could hack the firmware and be able to run emulators (SNES, NES, GameBoy, GBA, N64, etc), Wirelessly stream videos from your computer, and a lot more.

You can find out about this on www.pspupdates.com

I bricked my PSP on Christmas (Aw...?) by installing a homebrew application that just bricked it immediately..

Buy the clamshell for it which screws to the holes by the USB port on the top, do not use your shirt to clean the screen, buy a leather cloth and use that and keep your fingers away from the screen. Ive had mine for 2 years and not a problem or scratch because of all of my good house keeping. Good Luck!

You need memory sticks. Just get one that is real good quality and has tons of memory space.

PSP 1000 - The original and largest PSP, is easiest to hack
PSP 2000 - The slim psp, is lighter and smaller, still possible to hack
PSP 3000 - Looks the same as the 2000 but the screen gives better colours and less blur, is pretty much un-hackable
PSP GO - Is being released this autumn, will have a slide up screen, is much smaller and will not use UMDs. The PSP GO instead has 16gb of internal memory where you can download games from the playstation store onto. Will not be able to be hacked since it has an internal battery.

Mainly the Weight, Size, Quality. Like for examplay the First series 1000 was good thick case meant that it was hard to break. but it was heavy
2000 (I have one) are light. they are a lot thinner than the 1K series the disk tray is a pull out rather than push a button. Sound can get louder. screen can get brighter.
3000 they suck. poor quality easily broken not much difference from the 2k series.besides the fact that it is SOOO easily broken, they did not use Metal for the Casing they used thin plastic (i have several friends that have had one and 3/4ths of them have already broken it)
As for the PSP go it WILL NOT have a disk tray (so ive been told) you have to buy the stuff off the PSN. But it comes with a small amount of memory in the system. Like 5 GB or somthing (maybe more)
